Cheerleaders Break Guinness World Record
Last weekend, a new Guinness World Record was recorded in Memphis, TN at Universal Cheerleaders Association’s Midsouth Regional. A total of 307 cheerleaders from across the Midsouth successfully cheered and danced their way into the history books, breaking the Guinness World Record for the largest cheerleading dance.
To break the record, all participants had to be properly uniformed and registered to participate in the dance routine. To judge this event the Guinness Book of World Records flew in Jamie Panas from New York City.
The record attempt was performed in conjunction with Guinness World Records Day, which is celebrated November 12 worldwide. Each country will spotlight the various record attempts being made that day.
“Our cheerleaders are honored to represent the United States during Guinness World Records Day,” said John Newby, UCA general manager and senior vice president. “This record is a shining example of the enthusiastic spirit, competitive drive and dedication that lives in every cheerleader.”
Robynn Coleman from Collierville High School in Tennessee said, “Once we had finished the dance they sat us down to tell us the results. I was so nervous, I wasn’t sure if there were enough people to break the record. As it turns out, there were enough people and we did break the world record. It was really amazing to be a part of something like this!”
