Welcome coaches and teachers! Thank you for viewing the UCA Southwest online newsletter and supporting our efforts to “go green!” We hope you are having a great year with your squad! We have many opportunities for both you and your teams continuing throughout the school year, so please continue to remember UCA as your “one stop shop” for all cheerleading needs!

• Fall Privates: Are you a new coach realizing your team needs some Fall instruction? Maybe your team went to camp, but has since then hit a plateau? Now that you’ve mastered your material from camp, are you looking to learn more? Fall Privates are a great way to either add additional material, or get extra instruction on stunts only! These are very affordable, and available either after school or on Saturdays!
• Choreography Privates: If you’re planning to compete with your team this Fall, it can be overwhelming. UCA is here to help! We can help your team create stunt sequences, and create a routine from material they know already! Or, have a UCA instructor come to your practice to clean your routine and boost your team’s confidence before they compete!

SOUTHWEST REGION FALL / WINTER COMPETITIONS

What is AACCA and why do I need it?
It is a safety course designed for cheerleading and dance coaches to educate them on all aspects of safety and risk management. The NCAA requires for all cheerleading coaches at the collegiate level to be AACCA Certified. Many state associations, including Mississippi and Florida, are also now requiring AACCA for all coaches. The certification lasts 4 years, and includes one million dollars secondary liability insurance upon completion. The price of the course is $75.00.

New Specific Basketball/Indoor Court Restrictions
The following skills are prohibited at a basketball and other athletic contests conducted on courts, except where the area is free of obstructions and non-cheer personnel, and all skills are performed on a matted surface.

1. Basket tosses, elevator sponge tosses, and other multi-base tosses
2. Partner stunts in which bases use only one arm to support the top per son.
3. Released twists into and from partner stunts.
4. Inverted body positions into stunts.
5. Twisting tumbling skills

When You Travel
What to include in your coaches notebook for each participant as you travel with your team:

• Personal Information (parent’s cell phones)
• Medical information and history
• Permission/travel slip—check with your principal on specific forms
• Hand Sanitizer
• Hair rubber bands/pins
• Band-aids
• Spot cleaner for spills on uniforms
