Big Blue Goes Pink
Every year, the cheerleading team from Hebron High School in Carrollton, TX reaches out to everyone in their community to inform them about Breast Cancer Awareness. Tania Honeycutt, parent of a cheerleader on the team, says, “Breast Cancer has affected a lot of people in our community and I think it’s great that the cheerleaders are devoting a lot of their time to make this a school wide effort to raise money and awareness.”
This is their fourth year raising money for the Dallas-Komen Race for the Cure, and for the last three years they have been awarded one of the top fundraising schools. Last year, they raised over $5,000 for this cause, by collecting donations, selling Big Blue Goes Pink t-shirts, and devoting a pep rally to this cause. Their school colors are blue so they thought it was fitting to call the pep rally “Big Blue Goes Pink.”
Even though the cheerleading squad raised a lot of money last year, they knew they could do better, so they set their goal at $7,500 and came very close to reaching it this year!
Throughout the year, they also participate in other activities to help out the community, like the Lymphomathon where they walked as a team.
