This month, UCA would like to recognize the cheerleading squad from Costa Mesa High School for their hard work and dedication in helping out their community.
Throughout the year, they have helped out their community in a number of ways, but the thing their community treasures the most is what they have done for their athletic teams.
“We noticed there weren’t that many fans in the stands during away games and we wanted to know why,” said the cheerleaders. As it turns out many of the students had no way of getting to away games, so the cheerleaders came up with the idea of turning the cheer bus into a spirit bus. The girls said, “We always have so much extra room on our bus to games, so we allow students to sign up to come to the games with us!”
CMHS Cheer Coach, Kori Johnson says, “We feel it is so important to give back to the community and to represent our high school in it. It’s very important for our cheerLEADERS to be true leaders in their community and to understand issues and problems in the community. They are true role models for the younger kids.”
Some of the other things they have done to help out the community include chili cook offs, lions club festivals, the Orange County Fair and the Mr. Irrelevant Week. They’ve done such so much for their community, in fact, that they’ve gotten awards of recognition from President George W Bush, California State Assemblyman Van Tran and Costa Mesa Council.
